Jodhpur City Guide

Jodhpur is mainly known for its impressive Meherangarh Fort. Located at the top of the hill and reached by quite a climb, it offers some excellent views of the old and new city. The fort itself, with its enormous gateways, palaces and museums, easily take up one of your days in Jodhpur. Jodhpur is a nice city. It is not as big as Jaipur and not as small as Jaisalmer. The old city offers winding streets with colourful street markets and blue houses (those belonging to the Brahmins) alternated with white houses.

Sardar market is a colurful market located in the heart of Jodhpur. Nearby is the clock tower which is a prominent landmark.

Arround Jodhpur there some intresting sites for travelers such as Mandore and Osiyan.  Mandore- the older capital of" Marwar "(land of death) now a days big garden with some nice memorials of maharaja. the most is jaswant singh's and ajit singh's. and a Hall of Hero's is spetaculer, and you can see Monkeys too!  Osiyan- An anciant town of Thar desert  65km north of jodhpur on jaisalmer train route is used to be importent trading center till 12th centuary, there are temples of hindus -Sachiyan mata, harihara ... and jain -Mahaveera temple. are dates back to 8th- 12th centuary. from here one can go on camel safari in to the Thar desert and can get chance to stay with desert people in small "Dhanis, of rajputs and can visit Bishnoi people and camp under the Stars.
